Supported living — what it means in practice
We hear this from families regularly. Supported living means someone lives in their own home in the community — with trained support workers visiting regularly to help with daily tasks, community access, and building independence.
The support wraps around the individual's life, not a care home schedule. Hours are flexible, the support worker is consistent, and the focus is on what the person wants to achieve — not just what they need help with.
Supported living may be right if…
- A current care home placement no longer feels like the right fit
- An autistic adult wants independent living with regular daily support
- Someone moving out for the first time needs a gradual, supported transition
- An adult with a learning disability wants more independence with regular support
- A family member needs to step back from a full-time caring role

How supported living is funded
Supported living funding typically comes from two sources — housing costs (usually covered through housing benefit or Universal Credit) and care/support costs (funded through a local authority care package or personal budget).
Many people access supported living through a local authority referral. If you're unsure whether someone is eligible, a social worker or care manager can carry out a needs assessment. We're also happy to help point families in the right direction during our initial conversation.

Rather talk to someone First?
That's completely fine.
Some families prefer a conversation before filling in a form — we understand that.
